We are registering new students Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. We will also hold an evening registration opportunity Thursday, August 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Hopkins PTO Appreciates Teachers

During the week of May 3-7, the Hopkins PTO showed teachers and staff just how much they are appreciated! Supportivie messages and treats were given each day along with a raffle for prizes. There was a luncheon on Friday and a special gift was given to each staff member. What a great Teacher Appreciation Week! Thanks, PTO!

End of the Year Awards Scheduled

Final awards for the 2009-2010 school year have been scheduled. Parents and other visitors are encouraged to attend. Awards are scheduled as follows:

Kindergarten-June 2 at 8:00am

2nd Grade-June 2 at 9:15am

4th Grade-June 2 at 1:00pm

3rd Grade-June 2 at 1:45pm

5th Grade Graduation and Awards-June 3 at 8:00am

1st Grade-June 3 at 1:15pm

Pre-Kindergarten-June 4 at 8:00am

New NEHS Members Inducted

The Hopkins Chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society honored 21 new members at their annual Induction Ceremony on Thursday, May 6th. Honorees received certificates and Honor Society pins. A great turn out of visitors including teachers, parents, grandparents and siblings attended.

TAKS Pep Rally Fun!

Third, fourth and fifth graders were treated to a "fun"tastic TAKS pep rally to begin the 2010 TAKS testing season. The students were entertained by dancers and cheerleaders from Wagner High School. Buddy classes from Pre-kindergarten through 2nd grade created a cheer for each class that was delivered through a video presentation Teachers did the Cha Cha Slide up on stage and then joined the students on the floor as the entire group danced and laughed. The students were also given a good luck snack to keep them recharged as the music and dancing continued.

As always the case, the students and teachers at Hopkins have worked hard preparing for the upcoming TAKS tests. We are very proud of our Hopkins Hawks!

Ms. Reyna Returns!

Melinda Reyna has returned to her position as assistant principal at Hopkins Elementary after serving as interim pincipal at Coronado Elementary for the start of 2010. We are glad to have her back!

Mr. Juarez has been reassigned to Crestview Elementary as their assistant principal. We wish him the best and miss him at Hopkins!

Holiday Store

PTO will be having their Holiday Store once again! The store will open on December 3rd and close on December 17th. The hours are 9:30 am-2:00 pm. The store will be open during the December 10th PTO meeting from 5:00-7:30 pm. Your child will be able to purchase items for their loved ones ranging in price from .05 to $20.00. The holiday store will accept cash only. Any parent/guardian wanting to help with the store, please call 661-1120 or email us at Hopkinspto@yahoo.com.

Destination Book Fair!

Hopkins Elementary Scholastic Book Fair will be Nov. 16-19th and we're looking forward to seeing you there. Our Family Event is Wednesday, Nov. 18th and we will stay open until 6:00 pm on that day. Thank you for supporting our library and encouraging children to read!

Red Ribbon Week Activities Planned

During the week of October 26-30th we will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week. This is a special week set aside to encourage children to make healthy choices and to stay drug free. Below is a schedule of activities the school will be participating in:

Monday, Oct. 26th: "Sock it to Drugs" -wear crazy or mix matched socks
Tuesday, Oct. 27th: "Being Drug Free is No Sweat" -wear sweats
Wednesday, Oct. 28th: "Hats Off to Being Drug Free" -wear a hat
Thursday, Oct. 29th: "Red Day" -wear red to show you are drug free
Friday, Oct. 30th: "Drugs are Scary" -wear Halloween Costumes

Jeans for Johnnie

As many of you know, our beloved custodian, Johnnie English, passed away this summer. On Oct. 12th, staff members paid toward a memorial fund and wore red or maroon shirts with jeans as a tribute to Johnnie's favorite teams--the Judson Rockets and the Texas A & M Aggies. Money collected will go toward purchasing cement picnic tables for the courtyard. We will dedicate this special place for students to enjoy the outdoors as a memorial to Johnnie English.

Halloween is Coming!

It may seem early, but Halloween will be here before you know it! I know many of you are already purchasing and/or hunting down costumes for your child and may have questions about what the child may wear to school. We will allow all students to wear costumes on Friday, October 30, if they choose to. There is certainly no pressure or requirement to wear a costume to school! Costumes worn to school must be appropriate for school�no blood, no weapons, nothing overly frightening. Costumes must be of appropriate length and must cover the body. We are looking for wholesome, school type costumes on that day. If your child has chosen a costume that is not appropriate for school, please have them wait until after school is out to change into it.

There will not be class parties for Halloween, however, some classes may do special activities on that day. Watch for information from your child�s teacher nearer to the date. If you have any specific concerns about your child�s participation in any activities, please inform your child�s teacher!

�Tal vez sea muy pronto, pero el d�a de los muertos llegar� antes de lo que se imagina! Se que muchas personas ya est�n comprando disfraces y posiblemente tengan dudas sobre lo que su hijo(a) pueda usar a la escuela. Permitiremos disfraces el viernes, 30 de octubre de 2008. Esto es solo una opci�n. Por favor no se sienta obligado porque no es requerido. Los disfraces deben ser apropiados para la escuela. Eso significa que no deben tener sangre, armas y tampoco deben ser exageradamente espantosos. Los disfraces tampoco deben ser cortos o escotados. Deben ser lo suficiente largos y deben cubrir el cuerpo. Si su hijo(a) decide usar un disfraz que no es apropiado para la escuela por favor espere hasta despu�s de escuela para usarlo.

No habr� fiestas ese d�a. Quiz�s algunos maestros decidan tener actividades especiales. Si prefiere que su hijo(a) no participe, por favor av�sele al maestro.

Reminder About Early Pick Ups...

Just a reminder that students who are signed out of school earlier than 2:30 are considered to be missing part of a day of school. This "counts" almost like a tardy. If students are signed out early three times it "counts" the same as an absence. Please arrange for your children to stay in school the entire day unless you have an emergency.

San Antonio Library Bookmobile at Hopkins

The Bookmobile visits Hopkins Elementary every third Thursday from 3:00-6:00 pm. The next visit will be on February 11th. See you there!

Tot Time!

All drink pouches need to be turned by noon on Thursday, March 4th. The winners will receive their prizes that afternoon(between 1:45-2:00 P.M.) All pouches received after noon will be added to next months (March) count.
