Name Change Information
Employees from time to time will need to change their legal name in JISD's official records. This is most commonly a result of marriage, but in any case these are the steps that must be taken to make the transition as smooth as possible.
Gather Documentation
JISD will only use an employee's full legal name as recorded on their Social Security Card. You will need to gather the following items:
- NEW Social Security Card showing your new name
Note: a receipt or confirmation letter is not acceptable; bring the actual card - Legal Documentation of event causing the name change
This will most commonly be a copy of the marriage certificate, divorce decree, etc.
Make an Appointment With HR
Once you have the above documentation in hand, contact HR to schedule an appointment. The appointment will be with the Benefits Specialist.
At the appointment you will complete a number of documents pertaining to TRS, Insurance, Local Systems and Technology.
What Happens When Your Name Changes
Changing your official name has a number of ramifications that you'll want to be aware of:
- All Correspondence from the district will use your new name
- Your District Logon (Username) will be updated
- Your Email Address and Account will be updated (your old address will generally be forwarded to your new account automatically for at least one month)
NOTE: Campus Personnel should follow up on any name change with their local campus office staff as well. Many campuses keep information (emergency info cards for example) that are not updated automatically by district systems. These will likely need to be updated separately.
