Changes to the Texas Administrative Code Retesting Policy

Along with the GED Testing Service (GEDTS), we wish you success in earning your Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency. We look forward to serving you and meeting your GED testing needs. It is the goal of our test center staff to provide you with the best testing experience possible.
Please be aware that all pre-registration takes place in the Judson ISD Adult and Community Education department. Refer to the "Registration Information" segment below.

GED tests are administered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays of every week; unless there is a holiday or unforeseen need to cancel.

Please note that it will take at least two Tuesdays and two Wednesdays to complete all five parts of the test series as we do not offer all of the tests in a single day.
Also, please be advised that there is no waiting room at our current testing facility; therefore, no one is allowed to wait in the building for examinees to complete testing. Thank You.
Texas GED Eligibility Requirements
In order to take the GED tests, an applicant must:
- Be a resident of the state;
- Have a government (national or foreign) issued photo ID;
- Be 18 years of age;
- Not be enrolled in an accredited high school; and
- Not be a high school graduate.
ALL applicants must also have VALID identification:
- State Driver's License
- Department of Public Safety (DPS) Identification Card
- Military ID
- Passport
- Passport Card
- Matricular Consular
Registration Information
GED Testing Registration is done in the Adult & Community Education Department (Judson Middle School - Bldg B.) located at:
9695 Schaefer Road in Converse off 1604 and Rocket Lane.
Registration is available: Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; then from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Applicants who are 17 years old must be officially withdrawn from public school and provide withdrawal paperwork as well as have a parent/guardian present at the time of registration.
Applicants, 16 years of age, are allowed to test ONLY if court ordered or in a job-placement facility such as Gary Job Corps.
Fees
The total costs for registration, certificate issuance and the five part test battery is $105.00. Test fees are good for 1 year from the date of registration.
Breakdown:
$25.00 - Registration
$15.00 - Certificate Issuance
$13.00 - Per Initial Test Fee
(The test battery consists of 5 portions- Writing, Science, Social Studies, Reading, & Math)

Complete the respective application then take to the Adult Education office to pay all applicable fees and schedule exams.
Minors are still required to have a parent signature and present at the time of registering to test.
GED Demographic Form
The GED Demographic Form gives the test-taker the power to create and change demographic information before testing to save time and ensure accurate information. Once you have selected a Test Center (JISD GED Test Center code: 0445), you have 60 days in which to register to take your first GED test. If you do not meet this timeline, your Demographic Form will be deleted. All first-time testers must go online to complete this form as part of their registration process prior to going in person to register at the Adult Education office at 9695 Schaefer Road in Converse.

Requirements for Prospective Examinees
All potential examinees must present a letter from an official GED prep instructor stating that the student is ready to take all or portions of the Official GED Tests battery OR provide a transcript after taking the Official GEDTS Practice test available at:
Examinees who have self-prepped may be given the option to sign a waiver. Information on the waiver may be provided at the time of registration. Ask for details.
Accommodations
The Judson ISD GED Test Center provides testing accommodations for disabled candidates with approvals on file. Candidates requesting accommodations must download and complete all sections of the proper accommodations application.
A certified or licensed professional must complete the forms by providing current documentation and evaluation information on the applicant.
The applicant must return the completed forms to the GED Chief Examiner at the JISD GED Test Center for review. The forms are then forwarded to the GED State Administrator in Austin and then to Washington DC for final review and consideration of approval.
All forms must be approved and on file prior to testing with an accommodation.
Examples of Conditions Eligible for Accommodations:
- Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (all types)
- Emotional/Mental Health: schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, etc.
- Physical/Chronic Health Disability: blindness, low vision, deaf, hard of hearing, HIV, diabetes, mobility impaired, etc.
- Learning disabilities: Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, etc.

Please be aware that it may take up to ONE month for a written response to be returned to the GED Test Center, who will then notify the applicant.

GED Testing and Procedures
Once you have completed and submitted your online demographic form and registration, test administrations, in English and Spanish, will be at the JISD GED Test Center located at 102 School Street in Converse. Testing is administered on Tuesdays & Wednesdays at 5:00 PM unless cancelled due to an unforeseen emergency.

Score Requirements
For the 2002 Series GED Tests, the minimum passing standard set by the GED Testing Service® is an average standard score of 450 or greater across the five content area tests (a total standard score of 2250 or greater) and, in addition, a standard score of 410 or greater on each content area test.
No score on the English form of the test achieved before January 1, 2002 can be used with a 2002 score. No score on the Spanish form of the test achieved before January 1, 2004 can be used with a 2004 score.
Retesting Policy
1/18/2012
Changes to the Texas Administrative Code
Retests: Examinees needing to retest will no longer have the required 6 month waiting period, nor do they need to provide a retest letter from their teacher or preparation program. The three tests per-calendar-year restriction is still in effect.
These changes are effective immediately.
Examinees are still required to prepay an $18 retest fee; per exam.
Also, any test scores below 410 is considered failing and must be retested.
