Message from the Board President
Printed in the February 2012 edition of the Judson Journal
“In every community, there is work to be done. In every nation, there are wounds to heal. In every heart, there is the power to do it.” Those are the words of Marianne Williamson, internationally acclaimed spiritual teacher and New York Times best-selling author. Those sentiments are a great reminder of how anything can be accomplished as long as people are willing to come together and work toward a common goal.
The Judson ISD Community consists of members who reside in the cities of Converse, Kirby, Live Oak, San Antonio, Selma, and Universal City. I’d like to take this time to say thank you for allowing Judson ISD to be the catalyst that joins these municipalities together. All of us strive to continue to produce excellence in education, while responding to the needs of the community. The needs of our students are always the top priority in our decision making and we do our best to create a sense of transparency through open communication.
There is great power in numbers. What one person may not be able to accomplish, many can successfully tackle as a group. Together, we have the power to transform lives. We are only as strong as our weakest link and if we make a commitment to act as one, the possibilities are endless. Remember - United we stand, divided we fall.
As we continue into the second semester, so many positive things are going on. First and foremost, I am proud to report that 100 percent of our Judson ISD elementary and secondary core subject teachers are highly qualified.
Right now we’re in the midst of creating some great things and I look forward to continuing the momentum. We are working to develop an energy management program that will save the district money and electricity. Meetings are being held to get community input and new energy policies will be enacted. It’s important that we be responsible stewards and set a good example for our students.
It’s important to make sure all of our stakeholders have a voice and an opportunity to take part in the process. A good example of that happened recently, when transportation community forums were held at all middle schools. Those were all great opportunities to gather community input and disseminate information.
We continue to reach out to our community through the JISD website (www.judsonisd.org). A variety of information is always available at your fingertips and it’s updated on a daily basis.
New informational brochures/catalogs have been developed and sent to parents on graduation requirements, the new STAAR test, and middle school/high school course catalogs in both English and Spanish.
We’re also proud of our automated parent notification messaging system. It’s called Alert Now, but will soon be taken over by Blackboard Connect. Regardless, you can still expect timely notifications of community interests to family via phone, email and text messages.
Unfortunately, we know that bullying is a reality at schools everywhere. I’m proud that the Judson ISD pays attention to that and aims to keep students safe through bullying prevention programs that have been implemented throughout the district. It’s easier for students to learn when they feel safe and protected – and that’s a top priority.
We’ve also made sure that Pregnancy Prevention Programs are in place at all of our middle and high schools.
Finally, I’d like to congratulate all the winners of the new Spirit of Judson Award. I was honored to be a part of the first annual ceremony and look forward to the next. It’s important to celebrate our employees who go above and beyond the call of duty. We have so many dedicated people in our district and they deserve to be recognized.
Sincerely,
June Adair, School Board President
