About The TaskForce
What is Security?
- a social as well as a technical process,
- the byproduct of a community of trust,
- appropriate systems properly set up to support stakeholders’ evolving needs, and
- well designed operating procedures appropriately implemented.
Why do schools need to address technology security?
- We function in an active learning community where students and teachers collaboratively exploring, sharing, and communicating with each other and the community.
- We need smooth operations for administrative, business, and reporting functions.
- We want to foster public support by ensuring kids are safe and schools are fulfilling their mission.
What does Technology Security encompass?
- Internet Security .. filtering, spyware, worms
- Asset Security .. physical access to technology, securing equipment with sensitive data
- Network Security .. controlling who and what has access to network resources, wireless security
- Data Security .. controlling access to sensitive data, standards for how the data is used and how it is transported
- Training .. informing end users about good security practices (desktop locking, password guidelines, recognizing sensitive data, how to secure sensitive data)
