Judson MS Teachers Attend Prestigious Seminars

Pamela Ussery and Brenda Pieper

Two Judson Middle School teachers recently participated in two prestigious professional development events.  Brenda Piper who teaches U.S. History and Pamela Ussery, an English Language Arts teacher were sponsored by Humanities Texas to learn from these unique seminars.  Ms. Piper attended the "Founding A New Nation" conference in Austin while Ms. Ussery traveled to San Marcos for the "Writing Texas" forum.
It gave them the opportunity to learn from some of the most respected historians (Pulitzer Prize winners) as well as renowned journalists and writers (National Book Award Finalists) in the fields of history and literature.  These two teachers were vetted through a very selective process with only 52 selected on the history side and 51 in the English Language Arts. We congratulate these two teachers and hope the experience was helpful.

Judson HS Auto Body Gets Grant

Collision Repair students working on class project

Students in the Judson High School Auto Body and Refinishing program now have another reason to be at the top of a potential employers list to hire.  The program applied for and won a grant from I-CAR (Inter Industry Conference of Auto Collision Repair).  The grant covered the curriculum certification fee which is not cheap and now students have the opportunity to graduate and earn an I-CAR Platinum certification which is another way of saying they are well trained.

The I-CAR program focuses 30% of student's time in the classroom and 70% in the shop using what they learn.  Industry experts know that this curriculum stays ahead of the changes that seem to happen all the time.  More than 6,000 collision repair businesses across the country hire I-CARE Platinum professionals.

Honored JISD Employee Returns To Inspire

If you've been around Judson ISD for any length of time you likely recognize the name of Ed Franz.  He was the principal of Candlewood Elementary School when it open in 1989.  He made a return visit to talk to staff and inspire them for a new year.

Mr. Franz was a successful principal for a number of years and is of course the namesake of Ed Franz Elementary in Live Oak. He looks like he could step right back into a principal's office again!!  We appreciate his time and his inspiration.

Summer Winding Down, Bond Work Cranking Up

Work going on at JCARE Academy

If you've been around any number of campuses in Judson ISD, chances are you've been seeing some construction work going on.  This is the result of the 2016 Bond propositions that voters passed.  This involved a number of upgrades and renovations at existing campuses.  The initial work at some of the older campuses was to make them a bit more secure with vestibule style entrances. After that, it was updating flooring, dressing rooms and facilities that students use all the time.  Technology upgrades are also on the way and don't forget work is beginning on a new elementary school on the south end of the district in the Escondido North area.

Below are pictures of some of the biggest projects that have been pretty active...such as Woodlake Hills Middle School where expansive soils are being addressed and the impact is being dealt with. Also, Hartman Elementary School where new flooring and wall surfaces are being replaced. We'll be touring the district over the next many months to try to give a smattering of the work being done. Stay tuned.
