Mr. James Worley

  • Welcome to Technical Theatre!!

  • This class is designed to be a survey of the different departments of theatre production--their goals, duties, and unique abilities.  Students should gain a well-rounded introduction to what goes into the scenery, lights, sound and costume preparations for a live theatrical production.

  • James Worley (Judson High School, Technical Theatre) earned both his BA and MA in theatre management from Angelo State University in the early eighties—and his MFA in directing from the University of Texas at Austin in 1997.  Over the past thirty years, Mr. Worley has led a varied career.   He taught a year of college at Oklahoma Baptist University, then spent three years as a professional designer, stage manager, and technician in New York at such institutions as the Juilliard School of Drama, the Roundabout Theatre Company, and Daedalus Professional Tours.  When he returned to Texas in 1988, he served as Angelo Civic Theatre (San Angelo) Technical Director and Resident Designer for two years, and, in 1990, became its Artistic Director.  In 1991, he moved to Dallas where Mr. Worley worked as Technical Director for Southwest Studios, Inc. --a professional scenic studio specializing in theme park and touring musical scenery (major projects include the Six Flags Batman Stunt Show Stadiums in Arlington and Chicago).  In 1997, Mr. Worley took another teacher position as Assistant Director of University Theatre at Angelo State University for 14 years, where he directed and designed over 40 productions.  Mr. Worley starts his tenth year at Judson High.
