Ms. Bonnie Anderson
Bonnie Anderson discovered music when she joined band in 7th grade. By the end of the year, she was first chair. Once she realized she had an untapped talent, she had the desire to excel in all areas of her life. Music helped give her purpose and the ability to pursue goals in life.
After graduating from the University of North Texas, she began teaching in Splendora ISD. In her first years of teaching, she was told she was "too innovative”, but that didn’t stop her. Thirty years later, she gets to teach music to over 500 students every week using her training in Kodaly, Orff and World Music Drumming and Marimba. She began teaching in Judson ISD in 1995. She knows that music teachers have a lot of influence in the lives of their students and need to use it wisely. Bonnie Anderson wants music to be the catalyst for students to be inspired and feel positive self-worth, just as it did for herself.
She has been named as a Top 10 Finalist for the Grammy Music Educator of the Year in 2016. She was chosen out of 4,500 music educators across the nation. In 2018, HEB gave her the award for Lifetime Achievement in Teaching through their Excellence in Education program. Two of her marimba groups played at Carnegie Hall the summer of 2018. She was the Region 20 Teacher of the Year 2022 and a finalist for the Texas State Teacher of the Year 2022. She is currently a finalist for the ATPE Elementary Teacher of the Year 2022.
