Mr. Lucio Velasquez
Bienvenidos! Mi nombre es Señor Velasquez. I am the Spanish 1 & 2 Teacher here at Metzger Middle School. It is a pleasure to be your child's Spanish teacher this year.
I am starting my 11th year of being an educator! I am a Native Spanish speaker and grew up in a Mexican-American home.
I love teaching Spanish and I try to bring as much of my culture into the classroom as possible. I love to listen to music; therefore, I try to incorporate that in my classroom. I enjoy teaching about cultural differences and traditions and have fun while learning a new language. I believe that a good education shapes not only minds but hearts as well. Learning a different language and traditions, especially at a young age, can make students more culturally appreciative and incorporate that respect into their daily and future lives. My biggest joy is to see that self-confidence build up and put into practice when we role-play skits in our class, or when a student tells me that they were able to use what we learned in class and talked to somebody in Spanish!
Learning a new language can be intimidating, but I believe that my enthusiastic, cultural approach to teaching Spanish enables students to acquire language skills in a manner that keeps them interested and motivated.
In my free time, I love to spend time with my wife, Rebekah, and my 2 sons, Levi and Luke. My hobbies include exercising & weight lifting, barbecuing, and playing my instruments.
