In support of the JISD School District mission, Facilities Planning provides professional expertise to the Board, the Administration and to other departments within the District. Although our skills are very diverse, we all have the same objective, to serve the school district. Our goal is to provide each student, faculty, staff and patron with a safe, comfortable and functional campus environment.
Facilities Planning supports the district by:
- Analyzing current and future facility needs
- Planning and managing the implementation of facility projects
- Short-and long-range development of the campus physical and spatial environment
- Compliance of the facilities with applicable building codes and regulations
Facilities Planning Functions
The Facilities Planning department provides professional design, space management, and project management support required for the construction, renovation, and maintenance of our school facilities. Facilities Planning is charged with managing the project so that the district's requirements are met. The department has several areas.
Design Services provides professional design and project management services for construction of new facilities, renovation of existing facilities. Services are provided by in-house staff and/or outside consultants and include architectural, engineering, and many other technical consultants with varying expertise.
Construction Services provides coordination between the campus/site users, architect/engineer, and contractor on school construction projects. This coordination includes contract document administration, progress reviews, site observations, contract payments and project completion acceptance.
The Facilities Planning Project Manager is the design and construction team leader and functions as the single point contact with the Design Consultant's team. As team leader, the Project Manager assists the district in identifying the project scope. The Project Manager monitors the contractor's progress for budget and schedule compliance. The Project Manager assist the Director of Facilities Planning with all phases of construction, from preliminary planning to project closeout.
