Melinda Mireles

Hi Wagner T-birds!  My name is Melinda Mireles and I am the campus Social Worker.  I am truly thankful to have the opportunity to work with our students for another excellent year!  We are doing amazing things on campus and only want to improve!  I am originally from Houston, Texas and moved to San Antonio to attend Our Lady of the Lake University in 1992.  I have made this great city my home.  I received my Bachelors and Master degree from the Our Lady of the Lake University.  I have worked in the Social Work field for 25 years and 18 of those have been in Judson ISD.  In 2001 I began at Candlewood Elementary, working there for 9 years and now I am on my 9th year at Wagner!

My goal is to assist students to be successful academically, but emotionally as well.  I practice from the strengths perspective and I work with students to become solution focused.  I work with students to help them use strategies for self-regulation and conflict resolution.  Please contact me anytime you have questions on how I can assist your student or family.

What is a School Social Worker?

School social workers are licensed professionals who provide a variety of services to students, families, schools, and the community.  Working closely with the counselor, and other school staff, school social workers intervene to identify and eliminate barriers to students’ academic achievement and their healthy social-emotional development.
