Middle School Theatre Courses

Introduction to Theatre
6th grade Half Year
Students will be introduced to the many aspects of performance and given the opportunity to try a variety of theatrical skills. During the semester, students will produce theatrical work in small groups as well as create individual products. The goal of this class is to help facilitate good peer dynamics and build self-confidence.
Students must complete the course with an 80 average to continue into Theatre I.
Theatre I
7th and 8th grade Half Year
Prerequisite: By audition or theatre director's approval and an 80 average in Introduction to Theatre.
Students will be instructed in verbal and non-verbal communication. Major class assignments may be performances in the areas of pantomime, oral interpretation, improvisation, puppetry, readers' theatre and scenes from plays. Theatre production, acting concepts and skills are introduced. Active listening and speaking skills are reinforced. Students are provided with opportunities to view plays and practice audience etiquette along with evaluating theatrical experiences.
Students must maintain an 80 average in all grading periods to be eligible for Theatre II.
Theatre II
8th grade Full Year
Prerequisite: By audition or theatre director's approval and an 80 average in Theatre I.
This full year course is for eighth grade students who had Theatre I as a seventh grader. This course of study is a continuation of the Theatre I course with more advanced studies and in-depth analysis of each subject area. Students will be required to audition for all productions, Audition for UIL, and maintain their eligibility.
This class requires some after school time.
