721 BEGINNING ORCHESTRA
GRADE 9-12 1 Credit
This is a beginning class and is open for all students' grades 9-12, no prior musical experience necessary. Students will learn to play violin, viola, cello, or bass. Students should expect to practice at least 3 hours per week outside of class and will be expected to perform several times throughout the year. There are a limited amount of instruments that can be issued from the school after the JISD Instrument usage fee is paid.
Students will be expected to purchase necessary music books and supplies.
721-4 ORCHESTRA I, II, III, IV
Grade 9-12 1 Credit
Prerequisite: Orchestra director's approval based on an audition and prior orchestra or private lesson orchestra experience
Members in the orchestra will develop intermediate and advanced skills on the violin, viola, cello and bass. They will learn and play a wide variety of musical styles from traditional to very modern as well as a variety of cultural music. Members in the orchestra will participate in UIL events, TMEA activities, community performances and competitions throughout the school year in form of large ensembles, small ensembles and solos. There are a limited amount of instruments that can be issued from the school after the JISD Instrument usage fee is paid.
ORCHESTRA APPLIED MUSIC I, II, III, IV
Grade 9-12 1 Credit
Prerequisite: Must be a member of Orchestra I, II, III, or IV
Applied Music is open to any student currently enrolled in Orchestra. Course will include strategies for a successful practice regimen, applied music theory and an introduction to improvisation. Students are expected to audition for individual competitions such as district orchestra and solo and ensemble contest.
