• Wagner High School AP Computer Science Principles Welcome Letter/Syllabus 2019-2020

Welcome to AP CS A.  Whether it’s 3-D animation, engineering, music, app development, medicine, visual design, robotics, or political analysis, computer science is the engine that powers the technology, productivity, and innovation that drive the world. Computer science experience has become imperative for students’ success in the workforce of tomorrow.

We designed AP Computer Science Principles with the goal of creating leaders in computer science fields and attracting and engaging those who are traditionally underrepresented with essential computing tools and multidisciplinary opportunities.

A score of 3 or above on this exam taken in May normally awards 3 semester hours of non-major computer science credit at a college or university. In addition, passing students will receive a $100 honorarium from the National Mathematics and Science Initiative.

This course is taught using blended instruction based on edhesive.com.  There are two mandatory assignments due in early 2020 which are sent for grading to the College Board.  These assignments contribute to your final AP score  Normally in class there will be short lectures interspaced with in-class work either on edhesive or on written assignments keyed to the AP exam.  Students who excel in this course will be invited to enroll in more advanced compute science courses in future years.

    Weighting:  Classwork (50%), Tests (40%) and Homework(10%)

All assignments can be redone any time.

NMSI training will be held in Nov,  Jan and  Mar on Saturday mornings.  Students are expected to attend and will be held responsible for the material.
