Mrs. Emily Gurwitz
Mrs. Gurwitz is the assistant director of bands at Judson High School and is beginning her 29th year of teaching. She received her Bachelor of Music Education from Trinity University and her Master of Music in Flute Performance from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She has taught many masterclasses, Region Band clinics, and various band camps over the years, including the Texas Lutheran University summer Music Academy and the Interlochen Summer Academy in Michigan. Mrs. Gurwitz was the director of bands at Bradley Middle School for 10 years and has also taught private flute lessons to high school students for over 20 years. Her private flute students have finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the state of Texas.
She is married to Elliott Gurwitz and has two children, Ethan who is a senior at Southern Methodist University majoring in music composition and mathematics, and Zoe who is a senior at Churchill High School who made the all-state band last year as a sophomore and junior.
In her spare time, Mrs. Gurwitz likes to do puzzles, exercise, and spend time with her family and her two dogs, Honey and Hershey.
