Mrs. Monica Marie Rodriguez
Welcome to Hartman Elementary School, home of the Knights and a premier Dual Language instructional program. This school is an amazing place to be, and I am very thankful that I arrived on January 7, 2019 to find a beautiful campus, phenomenal staff, and an excited community ready to take our next steps towards the future. A litte bit about me and why I am passionate about education...I am originally from El Paso, Texas where I was raised by my parents and surrounded by family in El Paso and Juarez, Mexico. My first language was Spanish, but my parents were determined that I would learn Spanish and English fluently. So, off to school I went with my mother who decided to take a job at the school too and worked in the cafeteria. I didn't know anyone, but I did know that I was expected to respect my teachers, learn as much as I could, and make my parents proud. I learned English but kept my Spanish langauge active throughout my childhood and into adulthood because it is very important to me that I preserve my roots but embrace my future. My parents taught me that hard work and self motivation were the keys to meeting my goals, but education was the ticket to a successful life! I attended school and graduated with honors, then attended the University of Texas at El Paso where I studied American and British Literature but also received a minor in Business Administration. This was the foundation for a teaching certification and a career as an elementary teacher, middle school English teacher, middle school math teacher, high school English teacher, high school Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2 teacher, behavior modification, autism specialist, and special education administrator for over 20 years. During those 20 years, my wonderful husband accepted a job here in San Antonio in 1998 and we moved. We have been here since then and this city is our home and our community. Judson ISD offered me my first job here in 2015 as the Assistant Director for Special Education, then Director of Human Resources, Assistant Principal of KittyHawk Middle School, and in 2019 I was offered Principal of Hartman Elementary. Life has taken me through many roads, but always to advocate for children, their education, and their families. It is with great pride that I start my 27th year in education and serve as your Principal. Please join me in a partnership as we care, nurture, and grow your child's knowledge towards their future. At Hartman, we believe that the time spent here will provide the foundation for curiosity and learning while teaching the students to be:
Because that is what HARTMAN means!
