• 6th Grade English Syllabus

    6th Grade English Language Arts Course Description: This course will target students’ growth in the areas of reading, writing, listening, speaking, discussion, reflection, and viewing. Reading strategies, critical thinking skills, and vocabulary building are the main elements of reading instructions. Through multiple literary genres, students will practice reading strategies and comprehension skills. The focus of writing will be on narrative, informational, and argumentative writing. The overall goal of the class is to increase the literacy and writing ability of students.

    Attendance Policy:  Attendance will be taken daily, students that do not attend the class will be counted absent.

    Grading Policy: updated in the Student Handbook:

    Tests and major projects – 40% - minimum of 3 per grading period

    Quizzes and Daily assignments – 60% - minimum of 2 per week

    A semester and final examination grade will be given in all courses, which will count for 10% of the final and semester grade.

     

    7th Grade English Syllabus

    • Students will have a two-period block class that combines the elements of both reading and writing to help students develop a deeper understanding of grade level TEKS.

      Students will focus on 5 units of study this year, to include the following instructional units:

      • Foundational Reading and Writing Skills: August 17th - 26th
      • Taking Action and Facing Difficulties:  August 29th - October 31st 
      • Teamwork/Love:  November 1st - January 27th
      • Perception vs. Reality:  January 30th - April 12th
      • Journey into the Future and Exploring What Comes Next:  April 13th - May 26th

      Students will be graded on the following:

      • Tests/Projects: 40%
      • Daily grades/quizzes: 60%
