6th Grade English Language Arts Course Description
This course will target students' growth in the areas of reading, writing, listening, speaking, discussion, reflection, and viewing. Reading strategies, critical thinking skills and vocabulary building are the main elements of reading instructions. Through multiple literary genres, students will practice reading and comprehension skills. The focus of writing will be on narrative,informational, and argumentative writing. The overall goal of the class is to increase literacy and writing ability of students.

Attendance will be taken daily, students that do not attend class will be counted absent.
The grading policy has been updated in the Student Handbook:
Tests and major projects-40%-minimum of 3 per grading period
Quizzes and daily assignments-60%-minimum of 2 per week
A semester and final examination grade will be given in all courses, which will count for 10% of the final and semester grade.
