Salinas History & Mission

  • Rico Salinas Elementary, home of the Rangers, opened in January of 2007.  The school is named after Ricardo Salinas, a 1992 graduate of Judson High School. Ricardo Salinas was a Border Patrol Agent who lost his life in the line of duty in July of 1998.

Salinas Elementary is the only campus in the district that has been utilized by the U.S. Border Patrol to swear in a working member of the patrol.   Members of the Laredo Sector of the Border Patrol and "Rico", a horse named by the students of Salinas Elementary in memory of Ricardo Salinas, held a ceremony in front of the student body.  Rico, a mustang donated by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to the Border Patrol was sworn in at this ceremony in 2013.
