Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Jose R. Leyva

My 45+ years of experience in the Construction Trades, education, skills and the enjoyment of working with High School age students is what make me a great construction teacher . I am a master carpenter and Cabinetmaker, who has totally enjoyed his life time working in the Construction Trades. I wouldn’t have had it, any different.

During My, 30+ years in the teaching field, I have, with the High Schools built, 14 each house projects, in Fort Stockton High School, Fort Stockton Texas and at Dysart High School in El Mirage Arizona. Also during my time at Dysart High School with the student, have help with the building for many more Habitant for Humanities homes in the El Mirage areas.

While at Cedar Creek High School, (Bastrop ISD), I develop a leading Building and Construction Trades program. Using the curriculum, that has been developed by National Center for Construction Education and Research, and having the students go through the OSHA, 10 hour Construction Safety Training Certification and added the 30 Hour certification for my advance students.. Starting the students in the 9th and 10th grades,  with Core Curriculum,(Introductory Craft Skills Training), and then processing to Carpentry Fundamental, (Level One and Level Two), as juniors and seniors. With the buy-in of the juniors and senior students, adding the first articulation agreement with St Philips Community College, we have seniors graduating with articulated college credit in Construction Technology. Also, giving the students the opportunity to participant in SkillsUSA, that will further develop leadership and trades skills.  Students compete, in skills and project building as part of the Building and Construction Program.
