Judson ISD PREP Students

Some 70 students were recognized for their hard work

in the Judson ISD's Pre-engineering Program. This is

a summer program that involves middle and high

school students delving into challenging but fun math-

based projects that take them deeper into the world of

engineering and science in a practical way. So instead

of sleeping late and hanging out at the house during

the summer, they took on the adventure of UTSA's

PREP program. This identifies students that have a

keen interest in applied math projects that prepare their

thinking and problem solving skills to develop an-

swers. As this is honed and matures, it many times

produces breakthroughs in technology, medicine, sci-

ence and all sorts of engineering areas. Most have

the first and second years, but there were

several who have progressed all the way through year

3 and 4. That's what this event was all

about. Recognition for taking a rewarding, but less

traveled path. They will see the reward as they

continue down that road.

Wagner Gets VH-1 Grant

Each year VH-1 Save The Music Foundation considers

competitive submissions for its Keys+Kids Grant. This

year they awarded just 18 grants across the country at

$10,000 a piece. Wagner High School's Choir Depart-

ment won one of those grants...the only one in Texas.

That grant provided a Casio Celviano Grand Hybrid GP

-500 piano and an equipment package that allows mu-

sic and tracks to recorded and used for a number of

different rehearsal purposes.

Wagner Choir Director Antionette Harris who applied for

the grant was more than happy to demonstrate how the

piano worked and accompanied her students with it on

a couple of songs. We congratulate her and all the

choir students that will benefit from this great tool for

instruction, practices and even performances.

Take a look at the video to the right that gives you a

good idea of how excited these students, along with

Ms. Harris, were about this wonderful new tool.

A big thank you to not only VH-1, but also Avnet, Inc., a

local partner who helped make this happen.
