Filling Big Shoes:
JISD Board Searches
For New Leader
Superintendent, Dr. Willis Mackey retires at the
end of this school year.
Since December 2007
Dr. Willis Mackey has directed
the Judson Independent School
District as Superintendent. In the
course of those years he has
provided much needed stability
that has resulted in an academic
strategy that’s had time to take
root and produce measured suc-
cess. Dr. Mackey recently an-
nounced he will retire at the
ending of the 2014-2015 school
year, saying “being away from
school...that’s something I’m
going to have to adjust to.”
The Judson ISD Board
wanted to continue that journey
of success he initiated, so it has
hired the ser-
vices of
McShan Con-
sulting to
conduct a
nationwide
search for the
best candi-
dates for the board to consider.
Lead consultant George McShan
began the process back in Octo-
ber and the firm wants to have
all applications closed by the
end of 2014. They look to have
the new superintendent in office
by the spring of 2015. As part of
the selection process, the search
firm solicited input from both
district staff and the community
at large. That was accomplished
by a series of open
community forums
and meetings of staff
and administration
members. Input was
also encouraged
through an online
survey that asked
community members what they
would like to see in a new su-
perintendent.
A small group of fi-
nalists will be vetted and one
finalist will be announced in
early 2015.
