JISD Instructional Calendar Is Here!

District staff were asked to vote on three instructional

calendar options through an in-house survey. Close

to 1,900 staff members voted on the three calendar

choices with each one displaying some differences in

the number of days off for Thanksgiving as well as

some different options for professional development

days.

Working around holidays, professional development

days, testing, grading periods and providing bad

weather days just in case, was a big enough challenge

on its own. Then the state stepped in and decided to

adjust how districts counted instructional

time...instead of days, it’s now minutes. That threw

an extra challenge to Executive Director of Student

Services Joe Gonzalez and his department to get the

calendar just right to accommodate all these needs.

In an overwhelming majority, option 1 won the vote

and we indeed will keep the full week for Thanksgiv-

ing and the grading period will end with the start of

the Christmas Holidays. So here it is...got some plan-

ning to do for the upcoming year? You’ve got the

JISD 2016-17 Instructional Calendar!
