Dr. Mackey Helps Answer HB 5 Questions
The Greater San Antonio Chapter
of Phi Delta Kappa International,
a professional association in
education, held a special forum at
Trinity University on the effects of
the 83rd Legislature. Judson ISD
Superintendent Dr. Willis Mackey
was one of five area
superintendents invited to talk
about how some of the changes
from lawmakers are affecting
public education. The passing of
HB 5 brought about a number of
sweeping changes in testing,
accountability and curriculum and
the panel was there to discuss and
answer questions from other educators on the transformation and the changes yet to come.
Along with Dr. Mackey serving on the panel were superintendents Kevin Brown from
Alamo Heights ISD, Burnie Roper of Lackland ISD, Lloyd Verstuyft of Southwest ISD and
Brian Wood from Northside ISD. Moderators were Shari Albright of Trinity University and
Jeff Goldhorn from Region 20.
JHS Debate Students Place

15th Annual Ronald Reagan "Dutch"

and the team of Kai Rodriguez and Sofia
Romero won first place in the Novice

went undefeated throughout the three
rounds of the contest. Sofia also picked
up Best Speaker out of 24 competitors.
