DOD Gives Huge Lift To STEM
Judson ISD has secured its largest competitive grant in recent memory. The grant,
which will be used at six Judson ISD schools, is a $1.75 million dollar Department of
Defense Education Activity grant that will be used to help launch the district's STEM
program. STEM, which is short for Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math, is the direction many leading school
districts are taking to give their students a high tech education
that prepares them for a world that is connected and digitally
savvy. Only 30 grants were awarded in the entire country
and Federal Grant Writer Kamara Adams says it will help
fund the district's STEM program over a three year
period. The program will be in partnership with Randolph
Air Force Base and will grow by using existing resources for
instruction of students. The schools involved are Kitty Hawk
Middle School, Converse ES, Olympia ES, Rolling Meadows
ES, Masters ES and Salinas ES. The district is also developing
a STEM magnet school at Judson Middle School.
Congratulations to the Federal Grants and Programs Department for winning this
much need funding.
