Get Ready to Chromercise & Get “Googlified”!

Students and teachers are exercising their learning through the use of Chromebooks and Google Apps for Education.  Chromebook carts are moving from classroom to classroom within the following campuses—Candlewood ES, Copperfield ES, Paschall ES, Spring Meadows ES, Woodlake ES, Kitty Hawk MS, Woodlake Hills MS, Judson HS and Wagner HS.  Many of these campuses have been using the Chromebook carts for conducting research, writing a paper, or simply collaborating within a cloud environment.   Both teachers and students have worked with this device in the classroom through the utilization of Google Apps tools such as Docs, Slides, and Sheets as well as Chrome Apps.  In the near future, more Chromebook carts are coming to a JISD campuses and libraries, so be on the lookout!  If your campus currently has these carts and would like to reap the Chromercise benefits and become “Googlified”, please contact Anita Hernandez @945-5554 or Melissa Martinez @945-5556 to schedule a session.

Discipline Entry via Teacher Access Center

The Data Services department launched the 3.1 version of Teacher Access Center (TAC) in the fall of 2014.  Currently the PEIMS office is embarking on expanding the capability of Teacher Access Center by developing training and documenting procedures on teachers entering discipline via TAC. Leveraging this capability of TAC will allow for standardized discipline entry and eliminating duplicate data entry. The PEIMS office will be reaching out to a couple of campuses to pilot the implementation this spring. Once all testing is complete discipline entry via TAC will be implemented district wide for the 2015-2016 school year.

To Share or Not to Share, that is the Question!

One of the most valuable tools available with Google Docs, Forms, Sheets, etc. is the ability to “SHARE” with others, but like any tool, this should be used thoughtfully!  When you create a new item in Google, you are the “Owner” and you have the ability to “Share” or “Not to Share” by controlling the settings on your account.  Right now, my @judsonisd.org account is set so that all the items I create say that “Anyone at Judson ISD can find and view” them.  If I do not want others looking at my work, I have to right click on the item, choose “Share” and use the drop down arrow to reset my sharing feature to “OFF”.  To avoid sharing sensitive information through your Google account, please pay attention to your settings!
