Nixon Mkubwa Sr.

Welcome to the 2022-2023 academic year! I am so excited about the opportunity to be your child's teacher this year. I am a business education instructor and have been teaching within Judson ISD since 2004. My rookie year as a teacher was spent at Judson high school on the Red Campus, my 2nd to 14th year were spent at Karen Wagner high school as part of the pioneering faculty that opened the new school in 2005, and in 2018, I was tapped to join the Veterans Memorial high school family of which I'm excited about returning to start my 18th year in public education.

Prior to teaching, I spent eight years working in the private sector in business/retail, office management and financial services in the '90s in the Washington DC area. It was not until 1997 when I enlisted in the United States Army as a Personnel Specialist (Human Resource) and spent the next 8 years serving our troops in South Carolina, South Korea, Wisconsin, and finally ending my tour of duty in San Antonio, Texas.

In 2004, I decided to trade-in my army fatigues and combat boots for chalk and dry erase markers with the goal of mentoring, motivating, training, coaching and preparing young men and women for the real world teaching Career and Technical Education. I bring my life-long experiences from the military and private sector into the classroom and share those experiences with my students to help them prepare for post secondary/college, trade school, military and the workforce.

It's going to be a great year and I can't wait to meet my new and former students so we can explore, discover and hit the ground running. As we all know, COVID-19 has brought a new normal in how we do school. I want to assure you that every precaution has been taken to ensure the safety and welfare of our students. The best way to reach me is by email. Please place the student's name in the subject line of your email. Phone calls will be returned within 24 hours. Our motto this year is: Dream Big, No Limits!! My goal as a teacher is to help your child meet and exceed the goals they have set for themselves this year, and with your support (parents), We Can, We Must, We Will do it together!!
