Ms. Catherine Zinn

My name is Catherine Zinn and this is my 24th year in education.  I was born and raised in San Antonio mostly within the Judson area.  As a student that struggled in certain subjects (Reading and Chemistry), I work hard to help my students celebrate their strengths and work on their weaknesses until they find the instructional method to overcome those challenges.  It was a teacher who identified my struggles in reading and another that taught me strategies to overcome and manage my weaknesses.  A friend in high school helped me discover a passion for reading by connecting me with a genre that I loved.  To this day, I love to read especially Science Fiction/Fantasy.  I enjoy NASCAR racing, watching movies, and writing.  I have one rescued cat named Speedy.

Education and Experience

I graduated from Judson High School before attending and obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from Texas A & M University at Galveston.  After college, I worked at the Texas State Aquarium in the Education Department, where I became interested in teaching.  I began my educational career in Houston before moving back to San Antonio.  I have worked in the Judson District since 2005 as a science teacher at Kirby M. S. and Metzger M.S.  I have also worked as a district Science Specialist and an RTI Specialist at JSTEM Academy.  While working at Judson ISD, I furthered my education by obtaining a Masters in Arts in Multidisciplinary Sciences from the University of the Incarnate Word and a Masters in Arts in Curriculum and Instruction (with a focus on Science and STEM education) from the University of Texas at San Antonio.  In the near future, I plan on continuing my education by obtaining a Ph.D.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe that all students can learn given the right environment and tools.
