Mr. James Bourdier

Hello! My name is James Bourdier and I am the Music Specialist at Copperfield Elementary. This will be my third year here, and I have some exciting new things to share with our students! See you soon!

I have always loved music, and music has always been an important part of my family. My father was a musician and teacher, and some of my earliest memories are going with him to the band hall. I began studying piano at age eight, and joined the percussion section of my junior high band as a sixth grader. In high school I was selected for the Texas All-State Band three times. I entered Lamar University in Beaumont as an Engineering major, but soon realized that all my friends and free time were in the Music building. I switched my major to Music and received my Bachelors degree in May of 1993. After three years of teaching and a year of graduate school, I moved to Houston and began working for H&H Music Company. It was during this time that I was able to explore another musical passion...Performing!

Over the next ten years I performed with dozens of different musical ensembles...rock bands, jazz band, funk & soul bands, country bands, community concert bands, and professional orchestras!

After I married my wonderful wife Alicia in 2009, I decided to get back to teaching full time. We were living in Baton Rouge at the time, but in 2013 relocated to Baytown, TX where I was the Percussion Specialist at Goose Creek Memorial HS for four years. We now live in Bulverde and Alicia is the Piano Program Director at Smithson Valley HS. We have two children, Rowynn and Cullen.
