History of Hopkins Elementary School...Home of the Hawks!
Hopkins Elementary School originally opened in 1967 as Kirby Elementary School. It was located on Old Seguin Road where Kirby Middle School is now. Classes were held in the school gym. In the fall of 1969, the school opened its doors at its current location, and for the last 50 years has provided educational and community services for the students of Kirby and a portion of San Antonio.
In August of 1996, the Judson Independent School District’s Board of Trustees approved the renaming of Kirby Elementary School to Joseph H. Hopkins Elementary School to honor the only principal the school had ever had at its present location. Mr. Hopkins served as principal from 1967 to 2001. Ms. Michelle Barrera served from 2001-2006 during which time the school was completely remodeled. Mr. Martin Silverman served from 2006-2015 and Ms. Terry Combs from 2015-the present.
All Hopkins Elementary students will receive a quality education, enabling them to become successful in a global society.
