Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a federal law that prohibits discrimination based on disability. It ensures that individuals with disabilities have equal access to programs, services, and activities that receive federal financial assistance.
Who is Covered?
Section 504 covers individuals with disabilities, which includes those who have physical or mental impairments that substantially limit a major life activity. Major life activities include things like walking, seeing, hearing, breathing, learning, and more.
Accommodations and Services
Students who qualify for accommodations under Section 504 may receive adjustments, modifications, or auxiliary aids that provide equal access to education. These accommodations are individualized based on the student's needs.
Requesting Accommodations
If you believe your child requires accommodations under Section 504, please contact our 504 Coordinator. The process involves gathering relevant documentation, holding a meeting, and determining appropriate accommodations.
Additional Resources
