Welcome to the Apple Unit at Veterans Memorial High School. I will be you/your child's teacher; my name is James Sanchez. I am entering my 7th year of teaching, all of which have been with Special Education. I am the recipient of the SPIRIT of JUDSON award for the campus for the 2020-21 school year. I have previously taught both elementary and middle school. I came into education in somewhat of an unorthodox route. My bachelors degree is in Criminal Justice and I worked in law enforcement, with the Bexar County Juvenile Probation Department, for 3 years. During this time I learned that the best way to reach children is through education, and hopefully prevent them from being in the system. This motivated me to go back to school and pursue a career in education. I earned my teaching certification and a Masters in Special Education from Texas A and M San Antonio.
