Mrs. Laura Johnson
Hello! Welcome! I'm glad you stopped by.
I am a first year teacher! I have been an Airline pilot for the last 14 years, Captain for the last 7 years, and new hire simulator and classroom instructor for the last 2 years. So, I have experience teaching, however, it was in a very different environment! I believe in constantly learning new things, working hard and showing grit, persevering through the difficult times and sharing positivity to encourage others. 2020 is bringing all of those beliefs into strong focus. Now, more than ever, do we need to persevere and show encouragement to each other!
I graduated high school from Winston Churchill High School in 3 years. I went on to Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi and received my bachelors degree in Psychology, again, in 3 years. I then went to flight school at Embry Riddle University in Daytona Beach, FL and graduated from their Commercial Airline Pilot Training Program in 18 months with Summa Cum Laude. I then began my career in the airlines.
Two years ago, when I began teaching new hire pilots, I found a new calling. I fell in love with teaching and being a support and role model to my students. I taught them how to fly the EMB-145 aircraft in the simulator, as well as, teaching aircraft systems (power plant, electrical, hydrualic, pneumatic systems), aircraft performance, weather, and general aviation knowledge necessary to be a professional pilot.
I am excited to share all of my experiences with you and encourage you to develop a passion for STEM!
