Mrs. Melissa F. Stewart

My name is Melissa Flores Stewart and I am in my 12th year in education. Currently I teach Art I, Art II & High School Art I here at Metzger Middle School.

I graduated from the University of Texas San Antonio in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. After college graduation my family moved to Eagle Pass, TX where I began teaching Communication Applications at C.C. Winn High School for a total of 5 years. In 2013, I transitioned into a new role which took me out of the classroom and into the Communications Department within the District. In 2016, my husband was relocated to San Antonio, and I began working in the Communication Department at North East ISD.

This past year I found myself missing the classroom and yearning to go back into teaching. I have always had a passion for Art and love working with children. It has been such a wonderful and rewarding experience being at Metzger MS teaching our young artists!

When I am not at Metzger, I am at home with my husband, Wesley, my 4 amazing children: Haily, Ashley Sophia & Luke and our puppy dog, Django! We stay very busy with creative projects, ranch life and enjoy spending quality time with one another and our extended families!

It is such a blessing that I get to do what I love all day with such amazing students. I work with great kids who think outside the box and have an eagerness to showcase their creativity.

Art is HEALTHY! That’s right! Exercising your creativity is lots of fun and also so good for your health! Mental health benefits of art are for EVERYONE!

    • Art relieves stress!
    • Art helps encourage creative thinking!
    • Art helps to boost self-esteem offering a sense of self-accomplishment!
    • Art encourages healthy brain activity!
Essentially, creativity provides a healthy distraction from everyday stress. Art provides problem solving skills so you can come up with your own type of solutions and further stimulate your brain with creative thinking. Also, viewing and creating artwork increases empathy and critical thinking skills in everyone!
