Marsha Burrows
Welcome to the wonderful world of music. My name is Mrs. Burrows. I have been teaching for 35 years, everything from preschool music to college students. This is my nineteenth year as a music teacher in Judson ISD, and I cannot think of a better place to work or spend my time. Our year will be filled with singing, dancing, playing instruments, reading music and performing. It is my dream to instill a lifelong love of music in each child that passes through my room.
I graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1979, with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy. I then attended UTSA where I earned my Music Teaching Certification in 1980 and In 1983, I earned my Master's Degree in Music and Vocal Performance at UTSA.
I began my teaching career in Northside ISD, and later moved to the Dallas area and taught for Plano ISD. I have also taught at private schools in both San Antonio and California. Additionally, I was an associate professor of music and vocal studies at St. Mary’s University, Stephen F. Austin State University and Dallas Baptist University. I have also spent many years as a private music instructor. As a singer, I have been a NATS winner, a National Young Artist finalist and recipient of other vocal awards.
I began teaching for Judson ISD in 2005, where I taught music at Crestview Elementary, a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School, for 13 years, prior to the opening of Wortham Oaks. While teaching for Judson, I have been the recipient of several grants, which include the First Mark Teachers Grant, the HEB Educator Grant, and the JEF Innovative Teacher Grant and the TMEA Grant. I have twice been awarded the Spirit of Judson Award, at both Crestview and at Wortham Oaks.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my dog, Sammy and my family. My hobbies include reading, walking, hiking, cooking and baking and gardening.
The future is WOW at Wortham Oaks Elementary School.
