Mrs. Rosemary Scott
Greetings! I am the ESL teacher, and also teach English I at Veteran’s Memorial High School! Teaching is a family business and teachers include my mother, my sister who was a teacher and a principal, and my son! Teaching is the most fulfilling career I’ve ever had, and I love teaching students English skills including writing, close reading, literary analysis, grammar, vocabulary, and how to think critically; in addition to goal-setting, success strategies, and how to develop cognitive and analysis skills they will need in order to navigate an increasingly complex world.
Journalism: Prior to teaching, I worked as media executive for 20 years, specializing in communications. As a professional journalist, my work has been published in many newspapers and magazines across the U.S. including the Billboard, San Antonio Express News, the Miami Herald (Business Correspondent), Ad Week, the Dallas Morning News, Hispanic, Hispanic Business, CTAM, Direct Marketing, Media Week, San Antonio Business Journal, and many others.
Awards & Service: U.S. Marketer of the Year (Medallas de Cortes Award); Best Team Leader (San Antonio Media Alliance & AWRT—American Women in Radio & Television); MIW for 10 consecutive years (Most Influential Women in Radio); and Research Director of the Year (Univision Communications). I also served on Schertz City Council (2019-22), and was Secretary/Treasurer for Schertz Economic Development Corp. from 2010-2016.
Philosophy: Research indicates that in the workforce, people who know how to write well and communicate effectively earn 57% more than their counterparts, regardless of their profession. Literacy is the cornerstone of success in American society, and it is my job to best prepare students to be ready academically and professionally by teaching correct and comprehensive reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills which are essential for success.
