Rocket Band A TMEA Honor Band Finalist

The Judson High School Honor Band has advanced to the state level in 6A Honor Band Contest. This quality group of musicians submitted a recording to the Texas Music Educators Association 6A Honor Band Contest last spring. TMEA judges have been sifting through the high school band submissions all summer from campuses all over the state and through several elimination rounds have selected the 16 finalists.  Comments from the judges in the regional round came back with unanimous first-place votes...that allowed them to make it to the area competition.  At the area level, Judson's submission was one of two to come out of the pack to go on to the state level. This is the first time in school history for Judson's band to advance to this level.  They are one of 16 top bands in the entire state of Texas.  Congratulations to these students and Director of Bands Jeffrey Keyes.

Judson High School band members Madison Emler, Tejas Fruean, and Pedro Lopez display the TMEA certificate that proves their selection as a State Honor Band finalist.

Rocket Bands Earn Sweepstakes

The Judson High School Rocket Bands proved again that excellence is their standard.  At the UIL Concert-Sight Reading Contest, the Varsity and Non-Varsity bands earned Sweepstakes and the Sub-Non Varsity band received a Superior rating on the Concert Stage. Congratulations to these students

Flyer Bands, Choirs Soar Above Competition

For the first time in recent history, the Kitty Hawk Middle School band and choir departments both brought home Sweepstakes trophies for each of their competing groups at UIL Concert and Sight Reading Evaluation. First, the Flyer Choirs, under the direction of Colin Powell, earned Sweepstakes with the Varsity and Non-Varsity Treble Chorus as well as the Tenor/Bass Choir. Then, the award-winning Honors and Symphonic Bands both earned Sweepstakes for the second consecutive year under the direction of Lacy Lansford and Kendal Tucker. Way to go Flyers!

Metzger Music Program Garners National Award

Music is such a great part of a balanced education. Research continues to support the many benefits that students see when they participate in some form of music performance.  It's wonderful that can come in the form of the band, orchestra, choir in their school or even learning to play an instrument outside the school setting.  Metzger Middle School's music program has been setting the bar very high for years turning out some wonderful student musicians.  That has now resulted in the school receiving the Support Music Merit Award from the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education.  A big part of that commitment is the way Metzger's music efforts provide access and education to all students.

We congratulate Metzger's Director of Bands Mr. John Robertson, Assistant Band Director Bryant Aynes, Orchestra Director Brian Coker, Choir Director Andrew Sanchez, and Principal Dr. Tracey Valree.

Patriot Percussionists Pick Up State Honors

The Veterans Memorial High School music program is growing and showing everyone that they are making quality a tradition at JISD's newest high school.  The percussion ensemble recently competed in the TECA State Championships and walked away with Best Artistry and Best Music awards.  For such a young school, these,  and so many other Patriot students are making an impact across San Antonio and the state already.  Congratulations to them for their hard work and achievement.
