Band Extravaganza At Rutledge Stadium

All the color, music and excitement of a high school football halftime show was on display recently at the JISD Band Extravaganza.  All three comprehensive high school marching bands and the 5 middle school band programs were on display at Rutledge Stadium to show family, friends and fans the importance of music education. But of course there's just the joy of seeing these students perform, right?

Wagner T-Bird Band Zooms At Contest

The USBands circuit of marching band contests boasts a membership of some 700 schools nationwide...one of the biggest in the country. Recently Wagner High School's Thunderbird Band competed in the USBands South San Antonio Showcase.  They executed a great performance and earned the Outstanding Percussion Caption Award and placed 2nd in the Group IV Open Class Division.  Congratulations to the T-Bird Marching Band and Director of Bands Frank Foster.

Rocket Band Flies High At Marching Contest

High school marching bands are incredibly busy this time of year with football season, practices and yes they even squeeze in marching band contests.  The Judson High School Rocket Marching Band recently participated in the Seguin Marching Band Festival...one of the preliminary competitions leading to wider scale contests.  The Rocket Band was Grand Champion (1st place overall) while also picking up Best Music, Best Color Guard and 1st place in 6-A division honors.  This is the second time in school history for the band to earn this kind of sweep at a prelims finals marching contest.  Congratulations to all these student musicians and Jeffrey Keyes, Director of Bands.

Wagner Drumline Keeps Beat At Percussion Event

The Wagner High School Drumline recently "rocked the house" at the Drum Corps International's regional event at the Alamodome.  The Wagner percussionists, along with their friends with Let Them Drum got to show their talents in the "Drumline Battle."  This pitted them against Arsenal Drum and Bugle Corps in a friendly competition of rhythm.

The Wagner students got to kick off the big day with their Kick It In Leadership program, providing some great entertainment to get the event started off in the right way.  A big thanks to John DeNovi at Drum Corps International, Eric Hjellming at Sound Sport/Drumline Battle and Ralph Hicks at Let them Drum for providing this great opportunity.

Metzger Band Makes Run At TMEA Competition

The Texas Music Educators Association's State Honor Competition has been going on and within the last several weeks the Metzger Middle School Band has been showing how good they are.  The band recently competed at the TMEA Area contest at Medina Valley High School. That put them up against some of the best middle school bands in south Texas.  We want to congratulate them on representing JISD so well.  They placed third and just missed out on advancing to state. But this is as far as any middle school in the district has gone in this contest in 31 years. The last time was Kitty Hawk Middle School in 1986 that placed 4th in state.  A big thanks to all the hard work the kids put in and of course band directors John Robertson and Bryant Aynes for guiding the ship this far.

Check out the new Metzger Band logo...an extension of the band's pride coming from their hard work. The district results below...region results below that. That is awesome everyone!
