JSTEM Teacher Publishes Article In PLTW News

JSTEM Teacher Sarah Bancroft and her students recently made the digital publication "PLTW News." This piece, written by Ms. Bancroft, documents how the life-changing health incident of a JSTEM teacher provided an opportunity for students to meld learning and engineering with empathy for others.  The article is titled Designing With Empathy and shows how caring for others can really inspire practical and useful designs to help others who need it.  You can read the full story below.

The Judson ISD Department of Special Programs team concluded as the anchor with “Purple UP”. Purple Up stretched throughout our nation, the Blue Star Families Literacy Initiative, JISD departments and campuses, Joint Based San Antonio military installation schools, KENS 5 TV, San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, UTSA, Texas A&M and our neighboring school districts with turning San Antonio purple in commemoration of “Month of the Military Child”.

April is designated as the Month of the Military Child, recognizing and honoring the commitment, contribution and sacrifices that military-connected students experience in their family life. Our military-connected students are faced with unique challenges like frequent moves or just being separated from one or both parents who are deployed for long periods of time. They move an average of 10 times while growing up and approximately 2 million have experienced parental deployment since 9/11. Military-connected kids deserve our respect that comes with that knowledge of the sacrifices that are made for the safety and freedoms we all enjoy.

Judson Baseball Standout Picks School

If you have even casually checked out the high school baseball box scores over the last couple of years, the name Holiday should be familiar. Caimyn Holiday has been one of the most versatile baseball players to come out of Judson in a long time.  He has excelled in virtually any position he's assigned on the field and has shown that his bat speaks for itself as well.  In a recent signing ceremony at Judson High School, Caimyn signed his intent to attend and play baseball at Mary Hardin Baylor University next year.  He led the Rockets to a 15-8 record, 8-6 in district play and finished the season batting .351 with 3 home runs, 15 RBIs, and 21 runs scored.  He swiped 12 bases and as a pitcher, he went 7-1 with an ERA of 2.73 with 46 strikeouts...including a no-hitter against Roosevelt.

He will take his talent, work ethic and leadership to Belton where MHBU is located and use it to further his education.  Caimyn is also a great student, ranked in the top 6% of his class. He also earned Honorable Mention All-State Choir 2016-17. He wants to pursue a degree in Mass Communications with an emphasis in sports broadcast journalism.  He is the son of Laurie and Tony Holiday. Good luck to this young man as he takes his Rocket Pride to the next level.
