Judson Chorale / Wagner JROTC Welcome Whataburger

Judson High School's Chorale helped welcome a new Whataburger into the Converse area. The singers were invited to perform the national anthem while Wagner JROTC students raised the American flag. Converse Mayor Al Suarez, community members, and Veterans showed their gratitude for the new franchise in support of the grand opening. After the ceremony, the students were treated to complimentary sunglasses and a hot and delicious Whataburger breakfast.

Rocket Choir Hosts Region 11 Honor Singers

Judson High School Choir Participants in the event

The Judson Choir program hosted some of the best singers in the region recently for the TMEA Region 11 Choir Clinic and Concert at the JISD Performing Arts Center.  The top singers in the region gathered here to work with Dr. Pamela Elrod Huffman From SMU and Dr. Lyn Brinckmeyer From TSU.  They not only benefitted from the great instruction, but these students gave a beautiful performance as a group. Judson High School had 22 students that participated in the clinic.

VH-1 Save The Music Grant Goes To Wagner!

The Arts are such an important part of a total education and we have teachers that are going the extra mile to make sure it happens.  Each year VH-1 Save The Music Foundation considers competitive submissions for its Keys+Kids Grant.  This year they awarded just 18 grants across the country at $10,000 a piece.  Wagner High School's Choir Department won one of those grants...the only one in Texas.  That grant provided a Casio Celviano Grand HYbrid GP-500 piano and an equipment package that allows music and tracks to recorded and used for a number of different rehearsal purposes.

Wagner Choir Director Antionette Harris applied for the grant and was more than happy to demonstrate how the piano worked and could be employed to student musical rehearsals.  We congratulate her and all the choir students that will benefit from this great tool for instruction, practices and even performances.

This piano grant was made possible by generous donors like Avnet, Inc. who have been consistently partnering with the VH-1 Save The Music Foundation for years.  Avnet is a Fortune 500 company with offices in San Antonio.

JISD Elementary Honor Choir Concert

There's nothing like listening to the voices of young children who have been trained and taught in the art of choral music.  The JISD Elementary Honor Choir gave a wonderful performance at the JISD Performing Arts Center.  The group rehearsed and performed with Guest Conductor Irma Taute. Ms. Taute has been a music educator at virtually every level for more than 40 years and has maintained a private voice studio for instruction for more than 30 years.  We appreciate her time and dedication with our students

The students performed such songs as I Want Two Wings, Rhythm of the Rain and How Can I Keep From Singing?  Below are pictures of the memorable performance.
