JISD Namesake, Joseph Hopkins Passes Away

Joseph Howard Hopkins, the principal that Hopkins Elementary is named for, passed away peacefully at his home over the winter break. He taught school and coached at several Texas schools before his final assignment with the Judson Independent School District. After more than 30 years with JISD, 30 of which were served as principal of Kirby Elementary School, the elementary school was renamed in his honor, Joseph H. Hopkins Elementary School.

Metzger Teachers Profiled On Local TV

The start of school has been a total effort on everyone's part...from custodial staff to administrators, but especially the teachers who got ready for students and their parents.  A few weeks ago two teachers at Metzger Middle School were profiled as they prepared for the big start.  The unique aspect of these two teachers was that while one was a longstanding teacher and the other was brand new, they both were veterans.  Take a look at this piece by KSAT reporter David Sears.

KSAT's Cool School Vote Is On

KSAT-TV has partnered with Go Public to help highlight some of the great things going on in public school districts and during March, Judson ISD is up.  While we know there are great things going on at all of our campuses, only three could participate, so those three in the mix are Salinas ES, Olympia ES and Kitty Hawk MS.

Each campus has a special initiative it's kicked off for this year and is using it to highlight its claim to be a JISD Cool School.  The winner is decided by the number of votes each school gets by March 8th.  It's not a large time window, but at the end of this voting period, the winning school will be featured on KSAT-TV's  SA Live.  So let the voting begin. Here's the site.

Crestview Nominated As Blue Ribbon School

Crestview Elementary School has been nominated as a National Blue Ribbon School.  Just the nomination for the award is an honor in itself and one that few schools achieve.  This year only 26 public schools in Texas were nominated…Crestview was one of only two in the San Antonio area.

KSAT-TV came out to do a story with Principal Yvonne Munoz, Teacher Robin Ratliff and 5th grade students Mara Rodriguez and Lilly Mauldin about the nomination and the reason for its success.

Crestview has built a reputation through the years as a school that produces excellence in academic and personal achievement among its students and staff.  This past year, STAAR assessment tests saw the school receive all possible distinctions from the Texas Education Agency.
