Judson Chorale / Wagner JROTC Welcome Whataburger

Judson High School's Chorale helped welcome a new Whataburger into the Converse area. The singers were invited to perform the national anthem while Wagner JROTC students raised the American flag. Converse Mayor Al Suarez, community members, and Veterans showed their gratitude for the new franchise in support of the grand opening. After the ceremony, the students were treated to complimentary sunglasses and a hot and delicious Whataburger breakfast.

Remembering 9/11, Karen Wagner

LTC Karen Wagner was a 1979 graduate of Judson High School and left a huge impact on the school during her years there. She went on to make a bigger impact in our country's armed services.  She died September 11, 2001 serving our country in the Pentagon as a leader in the Army Medical Corps.

It has become tradition that both Judson and Wagner High Schools hold brief remembrances at the beginning of the school day...this year on September 9th since September 11 fell on a Sunday. On September 12th, students from Wagner High School gathered at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery to remember Karen Wagner's life and sacrifice.  The ceremony included the school's ROTC laying a wreath at her grave, some thoughts from current Wagner students, Principal Mary Duhart-Toppen and the playing of taps.

We Remember.

Thunderbird Crew Members Visit With Students

Air Force Thunderbird crew members took a break from their busy training and traveling schedule to drop by their alma mater...Judson High School.  Their visit was in conjunction with the Thunderbird show back in November, but they felt it was important to go back to their roots.  Both Major Christopher Scheibler and Staff Sergeant Matthew Gips spoke to about 30 members of the JROTC program about what their experience has been and how they got there.  Both had some great advice for the students...giving 100 percent of themselves if they really want something...go for it with everything they have.  They also talked about some great teachers who pushed them to help them realize abilities they didn't know they had. Both men not only are Judson graduates, but they also went to Olympia Hills and Kitty Hawk Middle School. Scheibler is a flight surgeon for the Thunderbirds while Gips is in the administration end, but also assists in recording the shows for video promotional material.  JISD is appreciative of their visit.

Wagner Student Accepted to Air Force Academy Program

Judson ISD has a long tradition of ties to the military and Wagner High School now has its first student prepping to go to the Air Force Academy.  Patricia Patterson was accepted admission to the prestigious program.  The Air Force will indeed be getting a bright package of energy with Patricia. Along with this achievement, she has been a part of the Lady T-Birds Varsity Basketball team, a member of the National Honor Society and is in the top three percent of her class.  Patricia is also a First Sergeant of Bravo Company in Wagner's ROTC program.  Along with all those activities, she is also a Certified Nurse Assistant and stays active help others.  Congratulations to Patricia!

Wagner ROTC Gives Back to Community

Selfless Service is a value that is emphasized in the army and the Wagner ROTC put that concept into action along with some paint and paintbrushes. They volunteered their time to work with Habitat For Humanity recently. This group of students went to several houses in downtown San Antonio to paint and spruce up. A big thank you to these individuals who showed how to give back to their community and to serve others.
