National Honor Society Members On Pathway To Success

Military-connected and civilian National Honor Society students from Judson, Wagner and Judson Early College Academy participated in a “Chance of a Life Time Post-Secondary Planning” experience at Our Lady of the Lady University. The volunteer opportunity was held during the Alamo Area College Access and Completion Consortium’s Third Annual Summit. This year’s theme was Hand in Hand: Preparing Students for a Seamless Pathway to Success! The consortium provided professionals from school districts throughout Texas with sharing practices, tools and resources to support and prepare students to engage in their learning by guiding them to seek opportunities and paths that support their interest and passions.

JISD students were able to network with professional educators such as College Professors, Academic Advisors, University Directors, University Presidents, Vice Chancellors, etc. This amazing opportunity enabled our students to gain insights to their post-secondary plans and goals. Judson ISD junior and senior high school students and surrounding school districts will be invited back to attend the Alamo Colleges Young Leadership Conference on April 20, 2018 at Northeast Lakeview College. Many thanks to, JISD Military Family & College Readiness Specialist, Sylvia Greenwood, Our Lady of the Lake University, Alamo Colleges, San Antonio Education Partnership and Judson High School National Honor Society Sponsor, Christina Lopez-Mobilia. Post-secondary planning with the future of our JISD students & families was a huge success!

JISD Military Families Enjoy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Holidays can often present a challenge for military families who have loved ones stationed far from home. For the 1st, 2nd and some three or more times, many of our J.I.S.D. military community celebrated Thanksgiving without their families. While some were able to reunite around the dinner table to celebrate Thanksgiving, many of them were serving on a Permanent Change of Assignment (PCS), Temporary Duty (TDY), deployments or overseas in combat and non-combat operations.

Three organizations stepped in to help and went beyond just good wishes for the holidays. They put their boots-on-the-ground and took action by providing a little extra comfort for the families during this time of the year. San Antonio Food Bank, Rackspace and Now Word Missions Ministries Outreach Project provided Judson ISD military-connected and numerous civilian families with special Thanksgiving baskets that included a frozen turkey, holiday fixings and fresh produce to help stretch the budget. A tremendous thank you to Rackspace & the San Antonio Food Bank for their "Fill A Box, Feed A Family" project and Now Word Missions Ministry for their continued support in its "O'Give Thanks" program.

Lady Thunderbirds Sign College Scholarships

Congrats to Da'Nasia Hood for all her hard work. She has signed a full college scholarship with Texas State University.  Da'Nasia is a 4 year varsity letterman for the Wagner High School Lady Thunderbirds Basketball team and is a leader on and off the court.

Angel Hastings will be continuing her basketball career at Lamar University.  Angel is a very vocal and intimidating player on the court.  After recovering from knee surgery last May, she has continued to work hard and get herself back on the court. Congratulations to her and her family on this tremendous accomplishment.
