JISD Culinary Team Cookin' For Go Public Event

You may have heard that Judson ISD has a fantastic Culinary Arts program at Wagner High School through our Career and Technical Education Department. Well our program will be competing with five other culinary teams from local school districts in the Back To School Cook-Off. Go Public has partnered with the Culinary Institute of America to host this competition in a type of "Top Chef" format for its fall fundraiser. The event will be Saturday September 9, 2017 at the Culinary Art Institute on Pearl Parkway near downtown San Antonio from 10 am - 1 pm.

The Judson ISD team will consist of Superintendent Dr. Carl Montoya, Culinary Teacher Rosie Laster and two senior culinary students.  We can all show our support by purchasing tickets for the event and letting everyone know we are Judson Strong.  Space is limited for the event and JISD will be cooking against other heavy hitters...Alamo Heights, Northside, Northeast, East Central and Southwest ISDs. It should be fun and of course incredibly tasty.

Tickets are $10 and you can purchase them HERE.  If you would like to participate as a sponsor click HERE

A Heads Up On Game Time And An Opportunity!

The big season opener between Judson and Austin Lake Travis will be televised from Rutledge Stadium on FoxSports' first ever Texas Football Days.  The broadcast is a doubleheader of high school football. It starts off with a 3A matchup between Shallowater vs. Idalou (Lubbock area) at 6 pm and then the Judson vs. Austin Lake Travis game slated for 8:30 pm.  Because of how these sports telecasts work, please keep in mind that the start of our game could be delayed because of the finish time of the first game.  So while our kickoff time is set for 8:30 pm, reality could see it possibly delayed as late as maybe 9 pm depending on when the TV coverage of the first game wraps up.  Here's a link to the FoxSports website with details on the games CLICK HERE

Nevertheless it will be a great match up. While this is a great event, we want to keep in perspective too seeing all the tragedy and loss the last several days with Hurricane Harvey's landfall. There will be folks at Rutledge Stadium that will be accepting monetary donations to help hurricane victims on behalf of the Texas High School Coaches Association's Benevolence Fund. The San Antonio area narrowly missed a tragic situation that we are seeing unfold to those in Harvey's path.  In thankfulness of being spared, we can all show our gratitude by helping out others.  It's a great opportunity to show how Texans help each other!

First Day Of Classes 8-28-17

View More 1st Day Photos

Well thanks to Hurricane Harvey, there was a lot of doubt for a while whether it was going to happen on time or not, but the first day of school for Judson ISD did roll out on time and the 2017-2018 school year did see lift-off.  Teachers, administrators, staff and of course students blew in on the winds of Harvey to classrooms all across JISD.  While teachers weren't allowed to go to campuses for last minute preps over that last weekend because of the bleak forecasts, they stood ready for the first day and welcomed everyone back.

On that first day, Dr. Montoya was constantly traveling from one campus to another seeing how the day was going as were district administrators who made visits to see how they could help out and support schools.  A big thanks to the campus staff at each school for helping to make the first day as smooth as possible for all new and returning students. Let's make it a great year everyone...one day at a time.

Below, members from the Rotary eClub joined Ed Franz Elementary staff bright and early Monday morning to welcome back their students on the first day. Throughout the year, the Rotary eClub attends events and sponsors Lite Up Literacy nights for Franz.
