High School Football Returns!! Bigger Than Ever!

It's that great time of the year again...High School Football! This year is a special kickoff with both Judson and Wagner taking on some very worthy opponents.  The Judson Rockets are taking on Austin Lake Travis at Rutledge Stadium with an atypical start time due to television coverage of the game (8:30pm).  Meanwhile, the Thunderbirds are ready to go too starting the season on the road taking on Laredo United.  Both should be great games this Friday and we encourage everyone to get out there and support our student athletes.

We Are Judson Strong - Convocation Video

Judson ISD has assessed the weather and roadway situation that has unfolded the last several days and has conferred with other experts in determining that school will start as planned Monday, August 28, 2017. Rainfall amounts have been markedly less than predicted in most locations in the San Antonio area and at this point, unless the weather changes drastically, conditions will be conducive for school.

The start times for classes will be as normal, but we ask that all parents and students to be patient with the traffic at campuses as this is typically a high traffic day. It also will help if you choose to take your student to school, to please let them off at the appropriate drop off location so they can stay safe.  Buses will be running as scheduled, but we ask for your patience as well with bus runs as the weather and high traffic could be delaying factors with them too.

Welcoming Our New JISD Teachers

The JISD New Teacher Academy is a special time of coming along side our new teachers and helping them know where the ropes are and how their days will roll.  We know that for some newbies, especially those who are new to teaching and to the district that it can be a little like drinking from a firehose, but this academy is hoped to help them take it all in a piece at a time.  From basic curriculum, checking for understanding to instructional practices.

We appreciate all our new teachers who are learning the JISD way.

Convocation Kicks Off 2017-18 School Year

SWAG Steppers perform at 2017 Convocation

Convocation. It's a way of getting the whole JISD family together to kick off the new school year.  The team spirit and commitment of employees was renewed as we all prepare for students to come back and begin a new effort of instruction and support in helping them reach their potential every day.  This was the third year for the event to be hosted at Wagner High School's basketball gym and it was filled with lots of music, laughs and a challenge to be the kind of teacher that makes an impact.

Master of Ceremonies Cleto Rodriguez

Bonnie Anderson, the music teacher at Coronado Village led a student and teacher marimba group in a great upbeat number, the Wagner, Judson and Veterans Memorial Cheer Teams performed and a special appearance also by a student group called the SWAG Steppers wowed everyone.  The Master of Ceremonies, Cleto Rodriguez kept the mood positive with some great stories that kept us laughing.  Judson High School seniors Thaddius Potter and Miles Fuertes sang the National Anthem and Wagner teacher (and alumnus) Trevor Taylor was the special keynote speaker.

Also going on in between convocation sessions was the Health and Wellness Fair.  More than 40 vendors were on hand to provide information, samples, demonstrations and freebies about all sorts of services and products that can support health and well being.  A big thanks to Lexie Greathouse with the Communications Department and Sonja Rogers, the Health and Wellness Coach from Aetna for orchestrating both of these events.
