JISD Child Nutrition Best Of The Bunch Award

The Texas Department of Agriculture selects an elite number of school districts across the state that are setting standards for quality, variety, nutrition, and selection of food for student and staff meals.  That exclusive award is called the Best of the Bunch.  Less than 10 percent of school districts reach this achievement.  It takes a commitment to making sure that there is a variety to expand the palettes of students so they will grow and mature into a healthy lifestyle. It encourages the use of local food products when possible so it's fresher and tastier for kids and at the same time it supports local producers. Congratulations to Child Nutrition Director Janet Daniel,  Assistant Director Beveylon Concha, Secretary Maria Krohn and of course all the people who prepare, serve and plan the meals for all of our staff and students.

Kirby MS Robotics Team Rolls In First Contest

There's a first time for everything and the Kirby Middle School Robotics team members were newbies to robotic competitions...in fact, the First Lego Qualifying Tournament was their first time ever to compete.  Well, they performed like seasoned pros as they competed toe-to-toe against 23 other teams in this tournament hosted at JSTEM Academy.  The Kirby team won the Robot Performance Award for scoring the highest in robot mission completion. They also cleaned up the content by taking home the 1st Place Champion's Award for excellence and innovation in both the Robot Game and Project. The next step...the Alamo East Division Championship in March.  Good Luck!

JECA Students Give Gift Of Life

Giving of yourself took on a new meaning at Judson Early College Academy as students turned out for a recent blood drive.  As part of what is called a Capstone Project, one of the school's seniors organized several blood drives this school year...completely orchestrated by students.  At this most recent drive, 37 units of whole blood were collected along with 9 units of double red, and 8 units of platelets.  It's an exercise in giving, organizing, and leading.

Wagner Winter Guard Places 1st At Contest

Congratualtions to the Wagner High School Winter Guard.  They placed 1st at the Regional 5A Division Texas Educational Colorguard Association Contest hosted at Madison High School.

JECA Student Selected Youth Of The Year

San Antonio Youth of the Year Savannah Mayhood

The Boys and Girls Club each year select a student that exhibits the highest leadership qualities such as communication, goal-setting, and teamwork.  After a lot of preparation and competition in writing, speech making and interviewing, one student was chosen.  Judson Early College Academy student Savannah Mayhood was selected as San Antonio's Youth of the Year.

She will go on to the state competition in March.  We'll be following Savannah as she continues on and expect to read more about her in the next upcoming edition of the Judson Journal.  Congratulations.
