Five campuses named Purple Star Campuses by TEA

On August 23, 2023, five Judson ISD campuses were given TEA Purple Star Campus Designations, which recognizes campuses for “demonstrating support and commitment in meeting the unique needs of military-connected students and families.”

“This designation is even more proof that Judson ISD is the district for military families,” said Monica Garcia, Executive Director of Student and Family Support Services. "We want to make sure that we serve those who have served for us."

The designated campuses were Kirby Middle School, Copperfield Elementary, Veterans Memorial High School, Candlewood Elementary School, and Mary Lou Hartman Elementary School. They join Judson High School and Salinas Elementary for the 2023-2024 school year.

Each campus had to meet specific criteria, which include having a designated campus-based military liaison, create and maintain an easily accessible webpage that contains information about military-connected students and their families, have a campus transition program for military-connected students. They also can have a resolution showing support, participate in Month of the Military Child or Military Family Month, or provide opportunities for active-duty military members.

“Having a large number of military families in our community, ensuring that we have support for them is essential to who we are as a district,” Sylvia Greenwood, Military Families & College Readiness Specialist, said.
