Veterans Memorial's Samuel Sutton named Superintendent Shining Star

JISD is excited to celebrate senior Samuel Sutton, the Veterans Memorial High School December Superintendent Shining Star.

When Samuel Sutton walks into a room, he brings a lot of joy and positivity with him – a characteristic he attributes to his mother, but that’s just one characteristic he attributes to his family. He credits his parents and large blended family as the source of his energy and believes the love and support he receives from them fuels his dreams of being a singer, actor and performer.

Samuel thrives both academically and in his extracurricular activities. He has a 3.4 GPA and ranks in the top quarter of his class while maintaining a full schedule of activities in the Fine Arts.  Samuel is involved in many activities both in and out of school. He is involved in Choir, Theatre, UTSA Choir Camp, Dallas Black Dance Theatre Intensive, International Thespian Society, Chick-fil-A Leader Academy, the VMHS Media Team and was the VMHS 2023 Homecoming King. As a member of the Choir, he was awarded Superior Ratings and received the Outstanding Performer Award in Solo and Ensemble state competitions.

Samuel is also involved in his church community and even invites members to school performances. At one such performance, Samuel tended to an elderly member of his church throughout the evening, taking special care to be attentive, respectful and grateful.

On the weekends, Samuel can be found serving as a waiter for his family’s restaurant Elders Family Restaurant in the Converse community.

Samuel exemplifies the Judson ISD Leadership definition by treating others well, investing in people and planning for success. Congratulations, Samuel, on being a Superintendent’s Shining Star.
