Congratulations to JISD students Janelly Vargas, Yadhira Lerma, Jasmine Medina, Julie Perez, and Bradford Maulden. This team of five JSTEM students, now 9th graders, were recognized by the Mayor’s office this month. Last May the students won the Mayor’s K-12 Smart City Challenge competition, but were not able to receive recognitions from the Mayor until now. The contest was city-wide and focused on STEM-related problem solving that related to sustainability, climate, and many other metro area issues. Each group was charged with researching a topic, developing a presentation and delivering it. The JSTEM team, called GSA took the contest with a project that created an app that rewarded individuals for responsible green choices Congratulations to these students and their sponsor Ms. Dawn Worley.
