Kitty Hawk MS Debate Team's Ar’nayzha Lighteard Takes 6th Place

Ar'nayzha Lighteard The Kitty Hawk MS Debate Team competed in their first speech and debate tournament that took place virtually in Mississippi.  And while the team did very well, one stood out among the rest. 7th grades student, Ar’nayzha Lighteard, competed in the poetry division for middle school students and took sixth place in the nation. She is on her way to solidifying her place for nationals at the end of the year.  These tournaments are very unique because the students get to talk about what they are passionate about, what drives their success.

Ar’nayzha thrives when given opportunities to compete and perform and she has a passion for sharing her message through poetry.  Her poetry program was inspired from literary works by Langston Hughes, Charles Water, and Frederick Douglass.  She puts race, ethnicity, ancestry, and overcoming discrimination at the forefront of her piece.   Her program is entitled: I, too, am America.  We are elated to have such an articulate and thoughtful young lady represent Kitty Hawk and Judson ISD!
